Complaints at 9 adverts are upheld

The Advertising Complaints Committee (ACC) has upheld nine complaints about adverts.

The Advertising Complaints Committee (ACC) has upheld nine complaints about adverts.

Among the adverts objected to was a radio commercial for Jurys Inn. It said: "Cork and its countryside, Galway on the bay, Limerick near the Burren...or is Belfast on your way?....Enjoy up-to-the-minute comfort from just €49 per room for three adults or two adults and two children sharing."

However, a person who wished to book a room in the Galway Jurys Inn was told that the €49 rate only applied to certain hotels, and that the Galway Jurys Inn rate started at €69.

Two newspapers were found to have breached the Codes of Advertising Standards.

The ACC found that a Sunday World "Free Prize Bond inside" advertisement was not for a free prize bond but a lease of a prize bond for one year only. The committee also upheld complaints about television and press advertising for a free Carry On DVD in the News of the World. One reader bought the paper and discovered that there was no DVD.

Other companies against whom complaints were upheld include: Esat BT, Dell Computers, Xtra-vision, Spy Security Systems and Sky Television.
