Benito Carbone is to have talks with Middlesbrough this evening after they agreed to take the Italian on loan from Bradford until the end of the season.
But Carbone is hoping to seal a permanent move to Teesside rather than a loan deal.
A Bantams club spokesman said: "The two clubs have agreed a loan deal, but Beni's position is that he wants a permanent deal.
"He will be having talks with Middlesbrough officials and we will just have to see what agreement they come to."
Carbone's future at Valley Parade has been in doubt after he was fined Stg£80,000 last week for refusing to sit on the bench during the defeat against Preston on January 29th.
Boro boss Steve McClaren admitted earlier on the Premiership club's website that he had enquired about the possibility of taking Carbone on loan for the rest of the season.
