Paris - France and Germany have asked the UN Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan, to negotiate a universal ban on human cloning.

Paris - France and Germany have asked the UN Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan, to negotiate a universal ban on human cloning.

Both countries have asked that the ban be discussed when the UN General Assembly meets next month in New York.

Italian embryologist Dr Severino Antinori had told an international medical conference in Washington on Tuesday that he would soon pioneer efforts to clone humans.
