Austin - Mr George Bush, son and namesake of the former US president, took the first formal step yesterday towards running for the White House in 2000 on the Republican Party ticket. Mr Bush, governor of Texas, announced at a news conference here that he would form an "exploratory" committee to test the waters for a presidential bid, and that he planned to file the official paperwork on Monday.
