Bus hijacked and driver assaulted in Dublin

A Dublin Bus driver was assaulted and his vehicle hijacked in Dublin last night.

A Dublin Bus driver was assaulted and his vehicle hijacked in Dublin last night.

A dispute broke out between a passenger and the driver at Cork Street in the Liberties area at about 9.45pm yesterday.

The bus driver was assaulted and forced off the bus, and a man briefly drove the bus a short distance until he was overpowered by other passengers.

Gardaí arrived at the scene and arrested a man (32). He is being held at Kevin Street Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, under which he can be detained for up to 24 hours.

The bus driver suffered injuries to his hand and severe bruising. No passengers suffered injuries.
