Carson City - The British supersonic car is on the verge of attempting to smash the sound barrier for the first time on land after reaching its highest speed so far on Tuesday, driver Andy Green said. He said he hit a peak speed of about 750 m.p.h. or around 98 per cent of the speed of sound, which at current temperatures in Nevada's Black Rock desert is about 760 m.p.h.
