A British army bomb disposal team has defused a bomb in Keady in south Armagh which was discovered close to the PSNI station. A number of houses were evacuated following a telephone bomb warning on Sunday night.

The device, which was taken away for forensic examination, was described by police as viable. Dissident republicans were last night viewed as likely to have been behind the incident.

Danny Kennedy, the Ulster Unionist Newry and Armagh Assembly member, condemned those who were responsible for the bomb. “Clearly there are still people who are intent on causing death and mayhem, and their actions are to be condemned.”
