Boy struck by boat critically ill

A six-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was struck at a beach in Co Down.

A six-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was struck at a beach in Co Down.

The incident happened just before 5pm yesterday afternoon at Cranfield Bay, near Kilkeel.

The child was given first aid on the beach by a lifeguard and a doctor who happened to be at the scene. Kilkeel RNLI inshore lifeboat was asked to attend, as was the local Coastguard rescue team.

The boy was transported to Daisy Hill hospital in Newry by ambulance. He was given cardio pulmonary resuscitation, on the beach and throughout his transfer.

It is understood the boy was being towed by a boat when he was struck by another speedboat,

The PSNI in Newry are investigating the incident.
