Gloucester - British police arrested a 16-year-old boy after up to three shots were fired through an open window into a classroom yesterday.

No one was hurt. In the room were 18 female students taking a course at an art and technology college in Gloucester. The youth, believed to be a student at the college, was in custody and a search was in progress for the gun.

Police sealed off the area around the building and evacuated a room. They said no motive had been found for the shooting and refused to speculate on whether it might have been an imitation of recent shootings at schools in Canada and the US. Although the weapon had not been found last night, police believe it was an air gun, perhaps a pistol.
