A 20-year-old Irish amateur boxer, who claimed he was injured after a barrier hit his leg during a quad bike demonstration at the Toys for Big Boys show at the RDS, has settled his damages claim in the Circuit Civil Court.
Martin McNamee, of Killinarden Estate, Tallaght, Dublin, told the court that on November 9th, 2007, the quad driver performed a two-side wheels demonstration and lost control of his vehicle when he attempted to put it back on its four wheels.
McNamee, who was 15 at the time and was accompanied by two adults, David McGuirk and Michael McArdle, said the quad bike struck one of the security barriers, which then hit him on the leg.
McNamee was taken by ambulance to Tallaght hospital where X-rays revealed no fracture. He sustained a soft tissue injury and bruising to his leg and was discharged with crutches.
He sued the Royal Dublin Society, Ballsbridge, along with show organiser Media Team, Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin, and exhibitor Benny O’Hanlon, Todds Leap Road, Ballygawley, Co Tyrone.
After the defence was opened for the RDS and Media Team, the court was told that Mr McNamee’s €38,000 claim had been settled for an undisclosed sum.
Judge Jacqueline Linnane struck out the case and awarded the legal costs against all defendants.
