The army bomb disposal unit defused a War of Independence-era grenade in Cork City this morning.

The army bomb disposal unit defused a War of Independence-era grenade in Cork City this morning.

A 15-year-old boy discovered the device on a building site in Pope`s Lane at around 10 o'clock.

The grenade was described by the army as an 'instruction grenade' which would have been used for training purposes and posed no threat.
