Emergency services are continuing their search for a teenage girl who fell into the River Shannon yesterday after finding the body of a male this morning.
A Garda spokeswoman said the body was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital, where was identified as that of Victor O'Connor (16), from Moyross in Limerick City.
The alarm was raised by friends at around 6 p.m. after 16-year-old Lindsay Kiely and her friend Victor fell into the river at Ardnacrusha ESB power station close to the city.
The body was found beneath a bridge close to the point where the pair fell into the river.
The two were sitting their Junior Cert examinations which began on Wednesday. It is understood the girl was washing her runners and slipped in at an area known as the Forty Foot. The boy is believed to have gone in to try to rescue her.
Locals said there was little chance of their survival as the current by power station is particularly strong.
Limerick Marine Search and Rescue and gardaí and firemen, backed up by the Shannon-based Air Sea rescue helicopter took part in the rescue operation.
