Blackburn have confirmed midfielder David Thompson is heading for the United States to see a specialist about his knee problem.

Chief executive John Williams said: "The problem has troubled David for some time now. This season, it has been a case of playing and suffering. In America he will undergo tests and have an operation on the knee."

Thompson flies to Colorado today and will spend several days having treatment. He missed five months last season following knee surgery in February.
