The largest wooden "tall ship" in the world, the Rose, will arrive in Dublin on June 1st, having crossed the Atlantic to visit several European ports. It will later visit Bantry for the Queen of the Sea festival on June 8th and 9th.
The 500 ton Rose is a replica of a 24 gun frigate from the 18th century. Built in Canada in 1970, it is modelled on the original HMS Rose, built in Hull in 1757, which played a part on the British side in the American War of Independence.
The ship is captained by Capt Richard Bailey, and its crew includes trainees of all ages, under the supervision of a team of windjammer seamen.
It left Boston on April 21st for its first trans Atlantic voyage.
