BATU picket charges

Members of the Building and Allied Trades Union, face contempt charges in the High Court today

Members of the Building and Allied Trades Union, face contempt charges in the High Court today. An injunction has been given to John O'Connor Construction Ltd, to stop unofficial pickets by BATU members at sites in Ballsbridge and on the Conyngham Road, Dublin.

This is the fourth time a building contractor has been awarded an injunction against unofficial BATU pickets at Dublin sites. The union has instructed its members not to participate in the pickets at the O'Connor sites and has denied that its official, Mr Denis Farrell, was involved in the pickets. A spokesman for the union said yesterday that Mr Farrell's reason for visiting the site had been to try and resolve the dispute.
