A 28-year-old man has been refused bail after being charged over an armed raid at a bookmakers in south Dublin on Thursday.
At about 2.30 pm on Thursday a man entered The Track bookmakers in the Whitechurch area armed with a firearm and demanded cash.
Yesterday evening, jobless father of one Glen Creed (28), who had been arrested minutes after the alleged raid, was brought before Dublin District Court charged with robbery of €2,300 from the bookmakers.
Garda Niall Russell told Judge Bryan Smyth that Mr Creed, who has an address at Bawnlea Close, Tallaght, made no reply when charged.
He objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the offence. He said it would be alleged Mr Creed entered the bookmakers “armed with a handgun and threatened the cashier” before demanding money. The garda also said that Mr Creed was arrested “yards from where the money and gun were recovered”.
He agreed with defence solicitor Michael Hennessy that the person who robbed the bookies was masked and that Mr Creed had gone to his aunt’s nearby house earlier.
Legal aid was granted.
