An arson attack on a Garda station in Co Kerry has forced gardai to abandon the station and operate from a portable building.

An arson attack on a Garda station in Co Kerry has forced gardai to abandon the station and operate from a portable building.

The attack on Castleisland station took place between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Saturday. An inflammable material was put through the letterbox and ignited.

Extensive damage was caused to the hallway and the doorway, and there was smoke damage to much of the building. The station was unoccupied at the time, and the alarm was raised by neighbours.
