Stockholm - Swedish police said yesterday they had arrested an eighth person in connection with December's daring raid on Stockholm's main art gallery, but without disclosing the suspect's identity.

The raid, in which Rembrandt and Renoir paintings were stolen, has been described as one of the most audacious art thefts in Swedish history. Three masked and armed robbers walked into the Stockholm National Museum towards closing time and stole three paintings.

They fled as members of the public looked on, making their getaway in a motorboat waiting on a nearby waterway.
