Washington - The US Supreme Court yesterday rejected two appeals by a Tennessee death-row inmate who claimed he had received an unfair trial for the murder of a police officer and that he had new evidence.

A US appeals court last month granted a last-minute stay to the inmate, Philip Workman (47), preventing what would have been the second execution in Tennessee in more than 40 years. The stay gave the Supreme Court time to consider the case.
