LIVERPOOL Police detained a man they say has been stalking Princess Anne near a church she was about to visit in Liverpool, northwest England, yesterday. Mr Bernard Quinn (53) was remanded in custody overnight. Police said inquiries were continuing "to see whether it was appropriate" that he should be charged.

Police, who had mounted a big security operation for the princess's visit to Liverpool, spoke to Mr Quinn several times during the day before finally detaining him shortly before the princess was due to meet members of a victim support scheme at the church.
