Of more than 1,190 samples taken in the HIV testing programme, all have been negative. The programme was set up by the Blood Transfusion Service Board for patients who might have been exposed to infection from the virus as a result of blood transfusions before the introduction of screening in October 1985. Since it was set up on October 6th, the helpline has received 1,190 calls.
