A group of eco-activists occupying a Coillte-owned wood in east Cork in protest at ESB plans to erect a series of high-voltage pylons yesterday strongly rejected Coillte's claims that they were damaging the woods.

"We would stress that we are not occupying the land in protest of Coillte and that we are willing to co-operate with them and meet any reasonable requests they might have. We are here to protect these woods from destruction by the ESB," said the eco-activists in a statement.
