A Dutch man in his mid-50s was arrested this morning after officers from Revenue's customs service seized 700 kilos of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €8.4million at Dublin Port.

It is the largest seizure of drugs to date this year by customs officers.

The drugs were vacuum-packed in cardboard boxes and hidden in a consignment of daisies that arrived on a truck into Dublin Port from Holland via Holyhead.

A spokesman for Revenue said the seizure resulted from on-going operations targeting freight from source countries.
