A Co Wexford man who suffered what he claimed were "horrific" injuries to his left ankle when the car in which he was a passenger left the road and struck a wall was awarded damages of £245,362 and costs at the High Court yesterday.

Mr Jason Hennessy (26), a roofer, of Maudlintown, Wellingtonbridge, had sued the owner of the vehicle, Mr Paul Walsh, Assumption Terrace, Rosbercon, Co Kilkenny, arising out of the accident on the road between Slieverue and Glenmore, Co Kilkenny, on May 4th, 1995.

Mr Justice Quirke allowed a stay on the award in the event of an appeal on condition that £190,000 be paid to Mr Hennessy.
