The handsome US-style biker jackets made in Donegal tweed, created specially in Donegal for the opening of the new Tommy Hilfiger flagship store on Grafton Street, are bound to become collector's items. Hilfiger, who has ancestral connections in Derry and loves Irish tweed, made a personal appearance at the store last week to meet customers and sign the limited-edition jackets that were sold.

Only 100 of the jackets have been made, divided equally between men's and women's styles, and each has been numbered. The new store, the 12th and biggest in Ireland, not only houses men's, women's and children's wear on three levels, but also the more upmarket Tailored and New York Runway collections, available for the first time in Ireland.

Fitted out on the ground floor like a gentleman's club, it is furnished with couches and wallcoverings in pinstripe fabric, leather carpets and antique and modern furniture displaying menswear and accessories. The tweed jackets, displayed with jeans and a Harley Davidson, come with a price tag of €600 for the men's style and €500 for the women's.
