Pottering around Waterford

Mary Lincoln is clearly blessed with an unerring eye and great good taste

Mary Lincoln is clearly blessed with an unerring eye and great good taste. Rarely do you walk into a craft shop these days and want to buy almost everything in it, but at Ardmore Pottery, beware: whatever recessionary prudence you possess is likely to fly out the window.

Her own pottery, shown left, is elegant and sleek. But she also sells an exceptional assortment of other potters' work, as well as handcrafted jewellery, knitwear and handbags, paintings, prints, homemade sweets, candles, preserves, books . . . the lot.

There's not a shred of tat in the entire shop. It's right beside the Cliff House Hotel, the hottest new spot in the country, with wonderful views over Ardmore Bay and stellar cooking by Martijn Kajuiter.

That's two reasons to visit Co Waterford this summer, or indeed anytime, because all and any presents you need will be found here, all of them made in Ireland.
