A duplex apartment in the city and one of south Dublin’s oldest houses are on view this weekend

ONE OF the oldest houses in south Dublin comes on the market today with an asking price of €2.95 million. Berrington House in Monkstown was once surrounded by farmland and went by the name Hillsborough. Now the 1740s house is a secluded family home with many original features intact and a useful self-contained apartment for teenagers or staff.

The 260sq m (2,800sq ft) house, which is reached via a private driveway off Monkstown Road, has plenty of off-street parking and a charming, if not particularly large garden. Inside, it is in good decorative order, having been upgraded in recent years. It is currently laid out as a four-bedroom home, with a self-contained one-bedroom apartment. It’s being sold by joint agents Knight Frank and Lisney.

On view Saturday, noon-1pm.

Meanwhile in Dún Laoghaire, close enough to merit a palm tree in the front garden, number 9 Crofton Avenue is a pretty double-fronted house dating from 1870 that has been totally refurbished. The four-bedroom house has 168sq m (1,800sq ft) of space that includes two reception rooms, both with modern oak flooring and original marble fireplaces, and a 29ft kitchen leading to a breakfastroom with access to a split level decked patio. The house first came on the market in November asking €1.5 million. Savills has now dropped the price to €1.25 million.

On view Saturday, 2pm-3pm.

In Carrickmines, a three-bedroom terraced house at 9 The Chase in Carrickmines Wood is new on the books at Savills asking €795,000. The 132sq m (1,425sq ft) is in showhouse condition and includes a superb contemporary extension with wide doors opening onto a patio. Other notable features: plenty of fitted storage and a SieMatic kitchen.

On view Saturday, 1.30pm-2.30pm.

In the city centre, Felicity Fox has taken a new duplex apartment in the popular Warehouse development in Clanbrassil Street onto her books, asking €1 million. The large 190sq m (2,004sq ft) apartment has three bedrooms and two large reception rooms, all with superb original parquet flooring. There is also a snazzy kitchen and no less than three west-facing terraces totalling 21sq m (225sq ft).

On view Saturday, 1pm

In Mount Merrion, Gunne Residential has halved the price of a large penthouse in Mount Merrion Avenue to effect a quick sale. Number 72 Woodview is a three-bedroom apartment with 257sq m (2,770sq ft) of well laid out accommodation in a smart redbrick block. Originally for sale at €2.5 million, the price has now been dropped to €1.195 million says sales agent Marian McQuillan. Features include a key access lift, lock-up garage for three cars, underfloor heating, attractive decor and two railed sun balconies.

On view Saturday, 3pm-4pm.
