Foxrock scheme opposed

A proposal by Strandsend Ltd to build apartments at Fey Yerra on Leopardstown Road, Foxrock, Dublin 18 has been opposed by residents of the enclave.

An Bord Pleanála has received five appeals in response to a grant of permission to knock a property there and build 20 apartments and duplexes.

Anthony and Brian Durkan's Strandsend Limited is looking to build the apartments in a three-storey block adjoining two townhouses on a 0.25-acre site.

In September, Strandsend Limited was refused planning permission by An Bord Pleanála for a similar development of 20 residential units at Fey Yerra which the bord said "would constitute overdevelopment of the site resulting in a shortfall in car-parking provision, would be visually obtrusive at this location and would seriously injure the amenities of adjoining property by reason of overlooking".

Fey Yerra is an enclave of 12 semi-detached houses and three detached houses built by Sorohan in the early 1990s.

In his appeal to An Bord Pleanála, Jim Leyden, who lives in the development, said the new proposal has been "reworked, redrawn and resubmitted by the developers again in a slightly different manner". He said the density of 20 units on a 0.25-hectare site is excessive and his property would be impacted upon by the three-storey development.

Fey Yerra Management Company contends that the proposed entrance to the apartments is not within the "legal right or ownership" of Strandsend and says the developer has no right to connect any structures to the foul sewer running along the access road.
