RTÉ food presenter Catherine Fulvio nominated for an Emmy award

The Irish chef, TV presenter and food writer Catherine Fulvio has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award. The shortlist was announced in the US on Wednesday and Fulvio is included in the Outstanding Culinary Host category.

She is nominated for A Taste of Ireland, a six-part series filmed at the end of last summer and screened on the US channel, Recipe.TV. Her fellow nominees are Giada de Laurentiis, Molly Yeh and Valerie Bertinelli (for Food Network shows), and Pati Jinich (Pati's Mexican Table).

“I was in my office when it came up on Twitter. I thought it was somebody winding me up, then I saw I had a few missed calls from the US,” Fulvio said.

“It is such an honour, and great for putting Irish food on the map. So many people believe we live on corned beef and cabbage here, and that vexes me. This series is all about showing what wonderful ingredients and cooking we have here.”

The show, which Fulvio describes as being about “Irish country-style cooking”, was produced by Emmy award-winning Lisa-Renee Ramirez. “I met Lisa-Renee when she was in Ireland a few years ago and helped her out with a location, and she said ‘I’m going to come back and do something big with you, Catherine’.”

The Daytime Emmys are presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, for work screened between the hours of 2am and 6pm. The awards will be presented in Pasadena, California on May 5th.

Fulvio, who runs Ballyknockan Farmhouse and Cookery School near Blessington in Co Wicklow, also presents the RTÉ series A Taste of Home and is a co-presenter on Lords and Ladles, with chefs Paul Flynn and Derry Clarke.
