May Day, or Bealtaine, is the traditional start of summer, when cattle were driven to their summer pastures. In the spirit of summer, here are two light refreshing wines from Aldi, including a well-priced rosé.

Verdicchio is widely grown in the Marches area of central Italy. The Verdi part of the name refers to the pale green colour sometimes found in the wine. The wines tend to be light and refreshing, perfect for enjoying with lighter foods and a wide variety of summer salads.

Béziers is a region of the Languedoc in the south of France. It produces red, white and rosé wines, typically made from the same grape varieties used to make Provence rosé. This Coteaux de Béziers is made from 65 per cent cinsault and 35 per cent grenache. Cinsault produces perfumed wines with bright fruits, which work perfectly with the light strawberry fruits of the grenache grape.
