Mike D of Beastie Boys will join the Sunday line-up of the Beyond the Pale festival, which will take place from June 12th-14th.

Known as Mike D, Michael Diamond was both vocalist and drummer of the American hip-hop group. Their hits included (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!), Sabotage, Intergalactic and No Sleep Till Brooklyn.

The group ceased performing following the death of founding member Adam Yauch in 2012.

Yauch, also known by the stage name MCA, died aged 47, three years after being diagnosed with a cancerous parotid gland and lymph node.

In a post shortly after Yauch’s death, Diamond described him as “our closest friend, band mate and really brother”.

As part of the Beastie Boys, Mike D headlined Electric Picnic in 2007. He later performed a DJ set at Forbidden Fruit in 2018.

The scheduled live performance in Wicklow’s Glendalough will be accompanied by a six‑piece band.

Diamond’s billing sees him join Caribou, Father John Misty, Primal Scream and Of Monsters and Men.

Irish acts featured in the line-up include Cabra rapper Kojaque, Galway indie rockers New Dad and trad supergroup Biird.

Weekend tickets and Sunday-only tickets are available for the festival on ticketmaster.ie. Further information can be found at itsbeyondthepale.ie.
