Irish bands tuning up for Glastonbury

The full line-up for this year’s Glastonbury Festival was announced this week, with several Irish bands named as participants in the Somerset event.

Fight Like Apes, who have made significant progress on the UK scene since releasing their debut album there in January, will play the Queen’s Head Stage on Sunday, June 28th. Belfast act General Fiasco, who have recently scored column inches in the UK music press, will be one of the first acts to play at the festival as they play the John Peel Stage on Friday, June 26th. Lisa Hannigan, Two Door Cinema Club, Imelda May, Sharon Corr, In Case of Fire and The Script will also play at various points.

As always, organisers kept the full list of artists playing at the festival under wraps until a few weeks before it takes place (June 26th, 27th and 28th), naming only the headliners – Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Blur – as an incentive for music fans to snap up tickets.

Other big acts flocking to what may be the world’s most famous music festival, which has a capacity of 137,500, include Animal Collective, Nick Cave, The Specials, Fleet Foxes, Lady Gaga, Echo and the Bunnymen, Bon Iver, Glasvegas and reunited spoof band Spinal Tap.

Any Irish fans hoping to try their luck at securing a last-minute pass will be disappointed, though: the last batch of tickets released to the public sold out several weeks ago.
