Whyte's of Marlborough Street in Dublin held its most recent auction of postage stamps and postal memorabilia last Saturday, at which a collection of Co Cavan post marks divided into two lots fetched an aggregate of £980.

A first day cover of the 1937 St Patrick half crown, five shillings and 10 shillings sold for £3,000, a 1935 two penny, partially imperforate, coil stamp made £950 and a collection of official mail, spanning two centuries from 1731, went for £1,100.

A block of 10 anti Home Rule propaganda labels fetched £500.
