A Connecticut-based money manager has vanished, along with as much as $3 billion (£2.29 billion) of his clients' money, leaving behind a "to do" list (item one: "launder money") and astrological charts designed to answer such pressing questions as: "Will I go to prison?"

Mr Martin Frankel (44) has not been heard from since May 5th, when an automatic alarm called fire-fighters to his mansion in Greenwich, Connecticut.

They found a blazing filing cabinet and two fireplaces stuffed with burning documents, but Mr Frankel was not around.

A man who identified himself as Mr Frankel called about the blaze, but when authorities requested a face-to-face meeting, he hung up.

Police have been investigating Mr Frankel since mid-May. A warrant has also been issued for his arrest, the New York Daily News said.

Last month, insurance company regulators said Mr Frankel's unlicensed company - Frankel's Liberty National Securities Inc - that he apparently ran from home, had siphoned money from a dozen small insurance firms in five states.

Among the papers seized after the fire was a hand-written list of tasks, including "Get dlrs to Israel get it back in", according to an affidavit filed in a US District Court.
