Payments company SumUp is to set up customer, technical support and development centre in Dublin, creating 40 jobs.
The firm, which turns smartphones and iOS devices into credit and debit card processing terminals, has already begun recruiting for the roles, and is being supported by IDA Ireland.
The new roles will mainly be in customer and technical support, with some involved in the development of advanced technology used in SumUp’s products.
Last month, SumUp unveiled its mobile point of sale technology in Ireland, Britain, Germany and Austria.
Chief executive Daniel Klein said the launch in Ireland had been successful.
“A lot of small businesses are operating within very tight margins and can’t afford to lose out on making a sale because they can’t process a card payment,” he said. “SumUp provides these businesses with an effective solution. I am very enthused about the establishment of SumUp’s Irish operation and I look forward to its growth and development in Dublin.”
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton welcomed the news, describing it as further evidence that Ireland was a “key location” for dynamic technology companies.
IDA Ireland chief executive Barry O’Leary said SumUp was an exciting addition to the cluster of emerging businesses that have chosen to base themselves in Dublin over the past few months.
“Ireland is fast building a solid reputation as a country which emerging and high-growth companies can use to internationalise themselves at an early stage,” he said. “SumUp joins a number of other German companies, at this stage of development, which have established operations in Ireland.”
