Psion, Europe's largest maker of handheld computers, is to float the Symbian consortium it formed to promote the use of its operating system for wireless devices, but not until mid-2001 at the earliest.

The UK company said yesterday the flotation, worth up to an estimated £5 billion sterling, must wait until stock market conditions are right and Symbian products - from mobile Internet terminals to smartphones - sell in major volumes.
