SEMPERIT management will call a meeting of workers tomorrow or Friday to explain its final redundancy terms when the Ballyfermot tyre plant closes on December 6th.

Yesterday senior executives held talks with the parent company, Continental AG, in Hanover, Germany. No statement was issued afterwards. A spokeswoman said that the outcome would be conveyed to a meeting of the workers tomorrow or Friday.

The workers have voted to support the Labour Court recommendation which would give five weeks' pay per year of service; the inclusion of the final 3.5 per cent of the PCW agreement in calculations; and payment in lieu of notice.

The unions say the company is offering four weeks' pay per year of service. The workers have voted to consider strike action if the company refuses to accept the Labour Court recommendations on redundancy terms.
