Oracle Corporation and Sun Microsystems yesterday announced an agreement to exchange key technologies that they said would improve their products earmarked for businesses.

Industry analysts said the alliance would strengthen their hand in the battle with Microsoft for dominance of the electronic commerce sector.

The agreement allows Sun to combine the Oracle8i Internet database with its Solaris operating system to provide high-volume Internet business services. Both products, however, will continue to be available separately.
