A 47 year old fisherman drowned early yesterday morning when he fell into the water as he was getting into a boat at Greenore, on the southern tip of Carlingford Lough in Co Louth.

He was named as Mr Paul Avington, from Strangford, Co Down. The accident happened at about 1 a.m. Another crew member recovered Mr Avington's body from the water but could not resuscitate him. His remains were taken to Louth County Hospital, where a post mortem is to be carried out.
