THE HIGH Court has appointed Kevin Hughes as examiner to the Tweedy pub and night club group, which has debts of some €10 million.

The Tweedy Group, with registered offices in Waterford city, employs about 120 permanent and part-time workers, the court heard. Owned by Bob Tweedy, the group includes Muldoon’s, Ruby’s and Oxygen night clubs, the Woodman and Masons bars in Waterford city, and Oscar’s bar and restaurant on the Dunmore Road, Waterford.

All the bars and nightclubs are to remain open during the examinership process, the court heard.

Ms Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan was told the Tweedy group of bars has four subsidiary companies – Eylewood Limited, Woodman Inns Limited, Cherryfox Taverns Limited and Ulysses Taverns Limited (which ceased to trade in 2006).

Eylewood Limited trades as Muldoons Late Bar and Oxygen Nite Club from a licensed premises at Manor Street, Waterford and is the largest asset of the group. The judge was told an independent accountant expressed a view, subject to conditions, that it has a reasonable prospect of survival.
