FINE Gael MEP for Dublin, Ms Mary Banotti, has called for an extension of the deadline for the abolition of dutyfree sales which is scheduled for June 1999. Describing a report on the impact of the abolition of duty free sales on Irish Ferries as alarming, she called on the European Commission to consider the implications for the loss of 14,000 jobs throughout Europe.
