Women with a mission

When it comes to raising money, the women of Knockanally are among the best around. Recently they devoted their thoughts to raising much-needed finance for the oncology unit at St James's Hospital. And their efforts were richly rewarded as a committee headed by Vera Hanlon and the club's lady captain Sheila Kenny raised over £14,000 during their Ladies Charity Day earlier this month. And that was from just a small women's membership of 125.

Meanwhile, Kenny proved that her talents weren't just confined to raising funds off the course. In a recent mixed competition she teamed up with Frank Bolger to shoot 66 and secure a one-shot victory over second-placed Monica Curran and Ollie Lyons.
