Another major GAA stadium development is in the offing with the news last night that Cusack Park in Mullingar is to be replaced by a new 26,000 stadium about two miles outside the town in Robinstown.

Westmeath County Board chairman Seamus Whelan confirmed that the proposal to allow for the development was given the go-ahead by club officials at a weekend meeting.

Cusack Park - thought to be worth over €25 million and famous as the venue where commentator Micheál O'Hehir broadcast his first match - has been the home of Westmeath GAA for over 70 years.

This development follows the news that the Kildare board are set to sell St Conleth's Park in Newbridge and move to a stadium outside the town.
