LEINSTER SHC KILKENNY V OFFALY:THE LOSS of competitive integrity suffered by this fixture in the current decade has been one of the most disappointing aspects of the now moribund Leinster senior hurling championship.
It's testament to Kilkenny's focus that their drive remains undiminished by the lack of serious challenge. This has been correspondingly demoralising for Offaly and has reframed their highest hopes on a miniature canvas.
There is hope in Offaly they can build on last season's encouraging first half/45 minutes against the champions. Last year their second-half eclipse led to a 14-point defeat, whereas Galway, who gave Kilkenny their most competitive match, in the All-Ireland quarter-final, paid a 10-point tariff for losing out in the final 10 minutes. There is a high price for losing the initiative against the champions.
Offaly looked physically strong during the win over Laois. It will be essential they make an impression in the half forwards.
Kilkenny have concerns with injuries - and JJ Delaney starts at full back tomorrow - but the full forward line of Richie Hogan, Henry Shefflin and Eddie Brennan looks far too strong for Offaly.

GUIDELINES
In the last episode:Last year Offaly did well up until half-time before falling away. It's 10 years since the county that once tormented Kilkenny have beaten them in championship.
You bet:Kilkenny are untouchable at 1/50 with Offaly 14/1 and the draw at 22/1. Handicap betting is more enticing with Offaly +14 available at evens.
On your marks:Kilkenny target goals early in matches like this. The All-Irelands of 2000, 2002 and last year were immediately taken under control with goals in the opening minutes. Offaly will need to disrupt supply of ball and mark tightly in the first quarter.
Gaining ground:O'Moore Park is more of football venue. Kilkenny aren't regular visitors, but have been beaten in Leinster just once in 10 championships. Offaly are more familiar with the venue and, of course, this is the location of last year's meeting between the two.
Just the ticket:Stand is €20 for adults and €5 for children (concessionary rebates of €10 for students and senior citizens). Terrace is €15 (children €3).
Crystal gazing:It's impossible to see this going wrong for Kilkenny.
