BOXING:The Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) are celebrating on the double after Katie Taylor and Ken Egan scooped the World and European boxers of 2006 awards on the Amateur Boxing Association website.

Taylor, from the St Fergal's club in Bray, who landed the world lightweight title in November, outpolled Yum Ku Ju of North Korea to win the women's world boxer award.

And Neilstown light-heavyweight Egan finished on top to claim the European men's boxer of 2006 title.

Egan (24), will be targeting his seventh senior title on the trot at the Irish championships, which begin at the National Stadium in Dublin on January 19th.

The IABA's award night will be held at the Ringside Club on January 13th.
