SECOND DIVISION Stockport were at it again last night, coming from a goal down to beat another Premiership side with a late goal. They meet Middlesbrough in the semi final of the League Cup.
Stockport scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute. When Tony Dinning set Alun Armstrong free down the right, Dave Beasant came out to half block, the shot but Andy Mutch, with his first touch after coming on as a substitute, popped, the ball over the line.
But there was evidence that Stock port were feeling the pace as they approached this, their 14th cup tie of the season, and eight minutes into the game their reserves were drained further when ton went ahead.
The scorer was Matt Le Tissier, doubtful for the game with a virus but showing no ill effects as he took Alan Neilson's cross on his chest and in the same movement swivelled with familiar poise to fire a shot past Paul Jones from 10 yards, his 13th goal of the season.
In the 56th minute the Portuguese Luis Cavaco turned smartly 16 yards out only to fire straight at Beasant. Four minutes later Stockport went closer still, Armstrong turning and shooting from 10 yards only to see Le Tissier of all people calmly blocking the ball on the line.
But the equaliser arrived, two minutes later, Armstrong's flick feeding Brett Angell on the left of the area and he shot under, Beasant.
