COLLEGES GAA MacRORY CUP FINAL St Patrick's, Dungannon 2-7 Omagh CBS 1-9ST PATRICK'S, Dungannon retained the MacRory Cup title with a narrow one-point victory over Omagh CBS at Healy Park yesterday in the first all-Tyrone decider.
Man-of-the-match Niall McKenna scored the all-important goal just before half-time, after Omagh had roared into a seven-point lead. And when Dermot Thornton added a second from the penalty spot, the Hogan Cup holders were on their way.
Peter Harte blasted home a superb 12th-minute goal. Wing back Stephen McCrory, Harte and Hicks had already floated over points to establish CBS’s supremacy, with Dungannon failing to build on an early Kiefer Morgan point.
However, after dominating the opening half-hour, Omagh went in at the break with a flimsy three-point lead, 1-6 to 1-3.
Dungannon started the second-half with purpose, and Thornton drilled home the 39th-minute penalty to give them the lead.
Ciarán Gervin floated over two scores to press home the advantage. The CBS boys were unable to bring Harte into the game, but he did convert a free to narrow the gap before Conan Grugan left just a point between the sides. But time ran out for the 2007 winners, and the reigning champions were crowned again.
