LOI review: Gary Twigg ended his Shamrock Rovers career on a high with a brace that slightly dampened the title celebrations of newly crowned champions Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds.

The home support won’t lose sleep over it ahead of a weekend of celebration, but the poacher’s goals will be sorely missed by the Tallaght faithful, though they will have enjoyed seeing him finish on a high.

Twigg gave Rovers the lead after just 10 minutes when he followed up his own effort that rebounded off the crossbar. The second came shortly before the hour when a back pass to Gary Rogers fell short and the striker rounded the goalkeeper to double the lead.

At Dalymount Park, Tiarnan Mulvenna got a hat-trick to inspire a 4-1 demolition of Bohemians by second-placed Drogheda United.

The forward struck twice in the first half before Evan McMillan got one back in injury time.

Alan McNally’s header restored the two-goal cushion four minutes after the restart and Mulvenna got his third, 21 minutes from time, when Greg Murray spilled the ball at his feet.

That result meant St Patrick’s Athletic had to settle for third and they did so with a 1-0 win over Cork City, thanks to a Christy Fagan goal in the 56th minute.

Dundalk will head into the play-offs with a little extra confidence after Barry Conlon’s late winner against Bray Wanderers at Oriel Park.

Michael Rafter scored after just two minutes for the homeside when he met Lorcan Shannon’s cross, but Kieran ‘Marty’ Waters equalised with a screamer in the 70th minute.

Conlon capitalised when Dane Massey was caught in possession nine minutes later to secure the points form Dundalk.

UCD and Shelbourne played out a 1-1 draw at Belfield where the homeside’s Hugh Douglas equalised David Cassidy’s second minute opener.
