Cork City 1 Bohemians 0
Danny Morrissey's 94th-minute goal gave Cork City a deserved victory over Bohemians at Turner's Cross last night.
It looked like being a frustrating night for the home team, who enjoyed the better of the play throughout, with solid defending by the visitors preventing many an opportunity from materialising.
With the end nearing, however, Morrissey got just enough on Danny Murphy's ball from deep to secure the win.
Positive start
From the start, Cork – with Stuart Ashton in charge in a caretaker role following Tommy Dunne's dismissal – were positive in their play, Gearoid Morrissey and Shane Duggan driving things from midfield. Up front, Ciaran Kilduff and Danny Morrissey linked well, and both could have had goals in the first half but Derek Pender and Roberto Lopes defended well for the visitors.
Despite Cork's dominance, it was Bohemians who had the best chance of the opening period, Dinny Corcoran put the ball over the bar with a free header shortly before half-time, but opportunities for the Dublin side were limited.
Came close
Cork upped the tempo upon the restart and came close on more than one occasion. Just before the hour, Delany somehow got his hand to Danny Morrissey's header and on 76, the goalkeeper again denied Morrissey and then Turner's curling effort whistled over.
Danny Morrissey volleyed against the post in injury time, but ultimately he had the final say.
