Sunderland boss Keane got his Uefa coaching badges while he was still captain of Manchester United.

Speaking ahead of the St Stephens's Day clash between Sunderland and United, Ferguson said: "Roy was doing his badges two years before he quit. That was a wise move. When they are still playing, the lads have time on their hands."

Typically, Keane has no time for sentiment, despite having spent 12 years at United under Ferguson.

The Corkman will be an Old Trafford legend for years to come but he has told the travelling support not to expect a warm welcome, regardless of what they have in store for him.

"United are a top club with great supporters but we're in a professional business," the 36-year-old told Sunderland's official website. "You don't get sucked into an old pals' act. It's nothing to do with personal feelings; it's about Sunderland. We want to win the game, we need the points. I'm not a great one for looking back."

Sunderland have won just two of their last 13 games, with last weekend's late loss to Reading leaving the Black Cats in the relegation zone.
